Tupelo Honey Playlist 10/12/10

He may have only done one true "Americana" cd, but Solomon Burke's lone foray had a tremendous impact on the genre. His 2006 release Nashville was produced by Buddy Miller and included contributions from Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin and Dolly Parton. Dubbed the "King of Rock and Soul" the crossover record paved the way for countless artists to break out of their confines and venture into the world of Americana. The man on top of the Americana charts right now, Robert Plant, owes Mr. Burke a big thank you, in fact, we all do. Solomon died on Sunday, he was 70 years old.
