Tupelo Honey Playlist 6/15/10

Live music is so hit and miss. I've never been able to guess which artist will translate from a great CD to a great concert. Everytime I think I've got it figured out, SMACK, I get hit in the head with a huge surprise. As was the case this last weekend with Eilen Jewell. Now don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan and wouldn't have missed her show for anything, but I just wasn't prepared for the unbelievable concert she put on.

I guess she was in town because her younger brother was graduating from UO and she decided to pick up a gig while here. That might have contributed to the overall feeling of the show. Kind of like playing for your relatives who've heard you a million times, you're going to be more relaxed, jovial and involved with the audience. She was all that in spades, but it was the music (of course) that really made the show.

All the nuances that are on her CD's were present on stage but there were also many subtleties making for an incredible performance. I won't miss here again.

BTW: lots of great shows (at least I think they'll be great) coming to town, including a crapload of talent to the OCF. Check my concert listings and see if anything interests you. Hope to catch you at one of the shows.

Till Next Week
